Slow mornings, mountain air and home-cooked food in the Tirthan Valley.

The hosts

We are Meera & Vikram. We left the city a decade ago to restore this home above the Tirthan river — and now we share it with travellers who love the mountains as much as we do. Expect home-cooked Himachali food, bonfires under the stars, and the sound of the river.

Rooms

Where you will stay

Valley View Room
Valley View Room
Sleeps 2 220 sq ft

A double room on the upper floor with a private balcony that looks straight down the orchard to the river. The bed faces the window on purpose — the first thing you see in the morning is the far ridge catching the light. Deodar floors, a writing desk in the corner, and a bathroom with a proper hot shower fed by the solar tank. Thick curtains for anyone who would rather not be woken at five. Breakfast is included, and comes up to the balcony if you ask the night before.

Family Cottage
Family Cottage
Sleeps 4 520 sq ft · 2 bedrooms

A separate two-bedroom cottage below the main house, with its own gate, its own sit-out and no shared walls. One double room and one twin, so four people are not negotiating over beds. The living room has a wood fireplace we light before dark from October onwards, and a kitchenette with a kettle, fridge and gas ring — which matters more than you would think when travelling with small children. The bonfire pit outside is yours for the evening when the weather allows.

Cedar Loft
Cedar Loft
Sleeps 2 180 sq ft

An attic loft under the pines, reached by its own wooden stair. Sloping ceiling, a skylight directly over the bed, and a window seat wide enough to actually sit in. It is the smallest room we have and the one couples ask for by name. Standing height is limited at the eaves, which we would rather say plainly: it suits two people who like being tucked in, and does not suit anyone over six foot who paces. Warm right through winter with the panel heater on low.

Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

About Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Tirthan Valley sits inside the buffer of the Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a valley of trout streams, deodar forest and villages that still farm the terraces above the river. Unlike Manali, there is no mall road and no traffic — the entertainment is the walk you take, the river you sit beside, and the food that comes out of the kitchen. Most guests come for two nights and wish they had booked four.

Mar–Jun
Blossom, greenery and long days.

The clearest mountain light and the fewest people — our own favourite.

Cold, quiet and beautiful if you do not mind a wood stove.
Jul–Aug
Heavy monsoon and landslide risk; we are honest about not recommending it.
